Thrift Share ~ Goodies Galore

I've come across lots of goodies recently and decided to show off a little more than usual for this weeks Thrift Share.
First up: Some vintage fashions!  Though I didn't get around to photoing all of the Spring & Summer dresses I have for the shop yet...here are a few highlights.
This happens to be the first vintage wedding dress I've purchased, but it was such a steal, flawless, and just so stunning that I couldn't leave it behind!  It's flowing & feminine & circa 1950s or 60s.  I also just love the Lace Lilac dress.  The style is so on trend right now! Don't you adore it!
In addition to the dresses I also snagged a few scarves.  The blue Vera sunshine & clouds scarf is a little work of art, and though the Chanel piece feels right I can't confirm it's authenticity so I'll definitely be keeping it for myself.  I'll be proud to sport it!
The Vera scarf isn't the only art I grabbed.  How sweet is this little paper cut?  It had a sheet of paper stored with it that explained it's provenance.  It's by Chinese Paper Cutting artist Zhang Xiufang who's been working since the early 60s.  I definitely need to do a little more digging around for info on the artist, but I'm glad I have somewhere to start.
Though I'm not into dolls, I had to admire the talent of the artist who painted this little doll.  It's expertly done.  The lace detail on the dress is so delicate, and the tromp l'oeil style makes dolly look as if she could fall right out of the box.
After getting home and doing a little research, I learned that the painting was done by British artist Edna Bizon. Though I can find lots of auction records for her, I haven't come across much bio info yet.  Regardless,  I'm sure there is a little girl or doll collector out there who would just cherish this sweet painting!  Another sweet little treasure that's going to make a collector happy are these vintage Green Tiger Press gum seals.
Green Tiger Press was known for its illustrated children's books, calendars and greeting cards.  These seals date before the company was sold in 1986. The images are so precious.
Speaking of great images, this amazing large leather bound book is filled to the brim with beautiful illustrations.
Remember a few weeks ago I shared this ice bucket handcrafted by David Auld in Haiti?  Well, this week I found a huge matching bowl by the same artist!  How cool is that?
And last but not least, speaking of cool...I found this big ole whistle! Silly I know, but totally fun!
If you want anything, just WHISTLE!
Well, I guess you could email me too :-)

I hope you had lots of luck on your thrifty outings too, & I can't wait to see whats been found.  Linking up to ATG's Thrift Share Monday and HLA's Flea Market Finds so be sure to check out all the goodies there too!

Geekery

It's been a long time since my last thrift share!
When I was in KY for the holidays, I came across a whole heap of 50s-60s vintage molecular model kits!
The structures are so fun to build, and look great as display or decor pieces.
Heck, they are even good for homework too!

I've built a few structures to list on Etsy, but would love to get some feedback.  If you were a buyer of these vintage molecules, would you want a structure already built (glued together and not moveable ~ seems as if the folks at Cathode Blue have had lots of success selling them this way) or prefer to have the pieces so you could make your own unique structure?  Quite a dilemma, but just trying to determine the best way to list these fun finds!
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Looking forward to being part of the Thrift Share parties again, so linking up to Sophie & Selena this week!

Thrift Share - This and That

I've come across a few fun things here and there over the past few weeks.  What do you think?

I just adore this Cartier Change Purse.  After my recent visit to Europe I recognize the importance of a proper place to stash my coins...so I'm keeping this one for myself.
It's a beautiful black leather with Gold accents & I'd guess it's circa 1960s or 1970s's.  Anyone know?
Cartier Change Purse
I almost walked away from this fun Couroc Ice Bucket.  It was all taped up at the Salvation Army so I couldn't peek inside.  In addition it was way overpriced.  Is it me, or are all of Salvation Army's in SoCal way overpriced?  When I walked it to the register however, the sales clerk gave me a deal so I decided to roll the dice.  There is a small crack on the bucket liner, but I think it's still ok.
SOLD - Couroc Bird Ice Bucket
"Printing Outfit Superior: The Little Printer"  is a pretty neat little vintage Letterpress Printing Set.  It contains all of the letters, typeholders, tools and more to bring any typesetting project into reality.
SOLD - The Little Printer
It would be perfect for artist and crafters young & old...and it's already made it's way into my Etsy shop.
As you probably know by know, I'm crazy for art books & love finding new additions for my library...this Goodbye Picasso book by David Douglas Duncan is pretty great.

Linking up & looking forward to seeing all of the other lovely finds this week over at Sophie's and Selena's.

Thrift Share - A Few fun Finds

Our neighbors rose bush...just loving all the Spring Blooms :-)
Another wonderful week of living in CA.  We've had some out of town guests staying for a visit...and have had lots of fun catching up with our great friends. While I haven't been doing too much shopping, I did get to visit about 3 thrift shops, and here are a few of the things I found.
SOLD
Excuse the geek in me, but I was a sucker for this 12 sided polygon toy (aka...dodecagon) when I saw it.  The model was probably used in a classroom somewhere along the way.  Im debating weather or not to sand & repaint it.  I think the original finish with chips and all adds to it's vintage charm.

This is the first Casserole dish I've ever bought at a thrift. It's by Heath California Pottery, and in excellent condition.  It's so simple, yet so charming.
I couldn't pass up a pair of Frye boots, even if they are not my size.  These beauties (SIZE 6) will be heading to my Etsy shop soon.
My best find this week, maybe even the best find of my year...was this Mid Century Clock.

SOLD
Mid-Century Meridian Ceramic Clock by Howard Miller
I posted more about it on The Thrift Collective, so you can read all about it out there.
Once again, Im linking up to  Apron Thrift Girls Thrift Share Monday as well as  Her Library Adventures Flea Market Finds!

Thrift Share - A few fun finds

I'm linking up with Apron Thrift Girl's Thrift Share Monday post again...
and this week I though I'd show you some of the fun things I've run across lately.

I couldn't resist this vintage 1978 Optical Illusion Toy.  The Mirage 3D Hologram Maker was in it's original box & I found the instruction booklet laying astray on another table.
Try to touch the object that appears on top of this fascinating optic mirage disc... there's nothing there! The object is actually below. Displays an unusual parabolic optical effect. 9" diameter.
You can still get them new online, but I just love this vintage model.

I also came across this sweet set of prints a few weeks ago at a goodwill.
I wish I had a place to hang them. They would be perfect in a child's room.
They are already matted & just need to be framed.  They will be a nice addition to the the shop.

I've been on the lookout to find a vintage scale, and finally came across one at a goodwill a few weeks ago.
It's a little bent & dinged, but seems to weigh accurately.

Though I stuck to my guns this past week & didn't do any thrfiting...
I did do some dept store & online shopping to get ready for my trip to Europe.
I hit the jackpot at Burlington Coat Factory.  There is a massive clearance area in the back of the store at DelAmo Fashion Center in Torrance.  I seriously spent $130.00 & got 13 shirts, a skirt & a pair of pants!!!  SCORE!
I'm so bummed though, I splurged on a this new pair of Frye boots for my trip & got em on eBay.

They are black & flat & studded & so cute...but they KILL my feet.
I wore them to walk the dog the other night & got 2 big blisters the 1st time out.
I guess I'll just stick to my old faithful Cowboy Style boots & be a happy footed traveler.
Just as a reminder my shop NowSoLA will be closed while I'm away, but I'll be back up and running with new finds in store after the 1st week in April!
Cheers ~ Lara
