Thrift Share - Going Global

Holiday Cheers...Christmas is almost here!
(I've added lots of linky links on this weeks post so be sure to click &
check out the background & details on some of my finds)
This is our Baby Tree in the living room with my favorite Thrifted Vintage Ornaments.
I was afraid our bad dog Lucy would eat the big tree if I put it up!
(Notice my mid century chair has yet to be reupholstered! lol.)

I'm excited for Christmas this year because I'm preparing for a trip to KY to see my family (and my Mommy..YIPEE)!!!  It's been over 3 years since I've been home for the holidays and I can't wait!
Unfortunately, I haven't even started shopping yet due to all kinds of craziness at work,
but I have managed to stop at a few thrift shops recently and look at some of the goodies I've found.
It's funny how themes develop.  I've always enjoyed having a vintage globe or 2 sitting around the house, but in the last few weeks I've amassed several more for my collection.
This one is my favorite however, because it lights up and makes a rather beautiful statement at night!  It's a Readers Digest globe from the 1980s and is in excellent condition.
I'm always buying art and really need to get the Thrift Art obsession under control...but I just couldn't pass up this lovely lithograph by LosAngeles/Mexican Folk Artist Esau Andrade.  It's large (18X24) and nicely framed and for only $5 at the Goodwill it was certainly a steal.
I suppose part of Frank Del Olmo's estate was certainly my treasure!
Can't wait to see what goodies your sharing this week too, so I'll be linking up to Sophie's Flea Market Finds and Selena's Thrift Share Monday!

LA Art Show 2011

Baldesarri's " A B C Art"
Tim and I took a trip to the LA Art Show this weekend...and enjoyed every minute of it!
There were hundreds of artists represented from noted galleries from around the world.
I enjoyed seeing the art & Tim loved being able to see the prices,
it was way more exciting for him than the muesum!
We found a few artist that we both really loved... like David Bromley & Malcom Liepke (who I've admired for years)

David Bromley...this piece was around 10K
David Bromley approx 5K

Malcom Liepke approx 10K
and he seemed to really begin to appreciate some of the masters like Miro & Tamayo.  The Beverly Hills Gallery Denis Bloch Fine Art had an amazing selection of litho's from many art masters and a very tempting booth!
Rufino Tamayo
Miro
I really loved the Damien Hirst pieces and really want to own one of these dot prints...but I'll just keep dreaming, lol!
Damien Hirst approx 12K-16K

The ABC pieces by Baldesarri were also a favorite of mine (first pic), so fun!

All and all it was an amazing day & I'm so glad we went!

Thrift Art Gallery - Oswaldo Guayasamin

Signed Serigraph by Oswaldo Guayasamin,
Ecuadorian master painter and sculptor.
One of my favorite places to visit in Long Beach is the Museum of Latin America Art (MOLAA).  I never have been disappointed during a visit, but by far my favorite instillation (maybe of all galleries I've ever visited) was the Guayasamin show in 2009.  His artwork is amazing & one day I plan on owning an original painting.  For now however, I am fortunate to have come across this original serigraph...and I got it for a steal.

I just happened to be browsing on Shopgoodwill.com late one evening (where I can thrift from my house...yipee) and this beauty popped up.  I could hardly believe my luck and you better believe I was checking my bid status every few seconds towards the end of the auction to make sure I didn't lose this gem.  Low and behold I was the high bidder, and now I get to stare at this beautiful work of art every day.

After getting the print home, I actually contacted the wonderful folks at  Fundación Guayasamín, and received an email back from Gabriela Vera Guayasamín almost immediately.  She informed me that the print was titled "Mercy" and is from the work during his Tenderness series that was made around 1984.  Someone had Mercy on me, and I feel so lucky to have this piece in my collection!!!

Here are a few other amazing pieces of work from this wonderful artist:

I would be remiss without showing you my own ode to Guayasamin, an oil painting on canvas board.

The Upstairs Gallery Poster for Boulanger's Long Beach show
1967-1977

I stopped into a Goodwill in Long Beach, CA late one afternoon on my commute home from work.
As I walked into the furniture area I first noticed the large Exhibit Posters for Graciela Rodo Boulanger that were hanging on the wall. I thought they were cool, but really large. Then I came upon the smaller prints featuring Children with Birds still in the sorting bin. I was in love!

The Upstairs Gallery in Long Beach had an exhibition of Boulangers work in 1976-1977, and I believe these pieces all came from the Gallery.
